I have a Sony VAIO VGN-N130G laptop that was purchased three years ago. It's been running fine the whole time and even now it runs pretty decently. But recently I decided that I ought to wipe it clean and reinstall the OS using the VAIO Recovery to restore it to factory settings.
I'm fully aware that all data on the machine will be lost when I do this. I've already backed that up. What worries me is the Recovery software itself. I've done some searching and have found that problems with running VAIO Recovery seem to be rather common.
I figured I would initiate the Recovery feature from within XP itself. And just in case I have two copies of the restore DVDs (which is 2 DVDs). One set that I burned three years ago when I got the machine and another set that I burned recently.
Now I find myself wondering if it's even worth it, though. A machine that works decently is better than one that doesn't work at all, after all. Does anyone have a lot of experience with VAIOs? I'm a bit wary of going through with this now, but I would like to reinstall Windows at some point since Windows does get more and more sluggish as it's used more.
I also have access to an XP install CD and I have the important drivers saved on a flash drive just in case. The machine itself runs XP Media Center Edition, though, so I'm not even sure if the drivers would work okay on XP.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
